Indian users will not have access to famous Chinese Apps like tiktok, Shareit etc., as per recent Government guidelines.
Ministry of Information Technology India, bans 59 Chinese Apps under Section 69A of Information Technology Act read with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Rules 2009.
Reason for Ban
The Indian Government said the apps were “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order”. Also many complaints has been filed against these Chinese Apps about the data piracy – unauthorized access of data.
On the other hand, communities think that this decision is taken in response to ongoing border tensions.
Famous social media application like TikTok, widely used file sharing app like Shareit, Alibaba’s UC Browser, WeChat, Club Factory etc, had majority users from India.
Reaction of Chinese Embassy
“India’s measure selectively and discriminatorily aims at certain Chinese apps on ambiguous and far-fetched grounds, runs against fair and transparent procedure requirements, abuses national security exceptions and (is suspected of) violating WTO rules,” Ji Rong, spokesman at the Chinese embassy in New Delhi, said in a statement.
Such harsh steps have been taken by Indian Government few years back too. Alibaba’s UC Browser was seen tracing the mobile holder and accessing unauthorized data of the users. To counter it, the Defense Ministry immediately asked the defense personnels to remove 50+ Chinese Apps from their devices.
Big Advantage for the Local Applications
Indian Smart phone Application like Roposo, Bolo Indya , very similar apps to tiktok , will now an open space in the market with least competition, as Tiktok will no longer be able to suffice the need of the users.
